Chichén Itzá

After nearly four months of living in the Yucatán, on Sunday I finally made it to one of the New Seven Wonders of the World, Chichén Itzá.

It was much more wonderful than I expected – despite the crowds it was amazing to be able to walk around this Mayan city and admire the incredible skill of their architecture. The Maya and Toltec vision of the world and the universe is revealed in their artistic works and stone monuments.

Yes, it is more manicured and crowded than other Mayan sites around the Yucatán and beyond, but there is a reason why Chichén Itzá is so popular – it really is spectacular.
