My second visit to beautiful, laid-back Celestún was just after Christmas with my parents who were here visiting. Although only a flying trip, it was enough to remind me why this sleepy little town is one of my favourites in Yucatán.
So peaceful, so beautiful and so charming, Celestún gives you the chance to disconnect from the stresses of the world and surround yourself with nature’s gifts, only one and a half hours drive from Mérida.
We spent our time relaxing on the silky sand, collecting shells and eating delicious sea food.
We stayed at a lovely Air B&B find called Celeste Vida which was very idyllic, right on the beach about 10 minutes walk to the main square and beach restaurants.
For a day trip or weekend in Celestún, take the bus from the Noreste terminal in Mérida on Calle 67 between 50 and 52. The ride takes about 2 hours.
