Puerto Morelos is a perfect small fishing town nestled in a surprisingly beautiful and unspoilt spot between Cancun and Playa del Carmen in Quintana Roo.
Even though I was there during peak holiday season, the town never felt crowded or spoilt; somehow Puerto Morelos has retained its local, small town identity amongst the clammer of development not so far away.
Puerto Morelos protects the environment by NOT clearing seaweed from the shores. The beaches there are beautiful because they are natural, not manicured.
Time here is best spent beaching, snorkelling in the crystal waters, eating fresh fish on the shore or delicious pizza in My Little Italy, being entertained and drinking beers at the Dia&Noche beach club and buying beautiful crafts in the great market just one block from the central plaza.
