This April, the Ayuntamiento (town council) set up a wonderful floral treat for Meridanos and tourists alike in the Mejorada Park. I was particularly pleased about this since Mejorada is on my way into town and back!
The ‘camino de las flores’ covered the back side of the park, outside the restaurant Los Almendros. You could admire huge flower sculptures of birds native to Yucatan as well as insects and other big shapes.
In the park itself you could read about the flora of the region and there were some stands selling natural local products like delicious Yucatecan honey. There was also the chance to ‘adopt a tree’ – a government initiative to reforest Mérida.
