Uxmal

On Sunday I went to the Mayan archeological site of Uxmal, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is considered one of the most important sites of Mayan culture.

This is the ‘Magician’s Pyramid’ – according to legend it was magically built in one night by a dwarf who hatched from an egg…..

The details of the buildings are really well preserved and lovely

Unfortunately they closed the site at 5pm and we didn’t have enough time to see all of Uxmal – it is enormous. So I will have to go back to see the rest of it as well as the light and sound show they put on in the evenings which I’ve been told is quite special.

To end the day we climbed up one of the smaller pyramids and admired the views of the vast expanse of rainforest
